Custom Jewelry - more than just kid or dog photos

I'm the first to admit that one of my favourite pieces of snap jewelry is the one with the photo of my son and I last fall.  He skipped school and we drove up to Banff to take the bus to Sunshine Meadows.  The larches were in full golden glory and we hiked an awesome 7km with breathtaking views the whole time.  I wear this snap all the time, and get a ton of comments.  It warms my heart every time I wear it. One of my other favourite snaps is the photo I took of my Vision Board late last year. I joined the Conquer Club with Natalie MacNeil and one of our activities was to create a vision...

7 tips on looking great in Western Style before heading to Stampede

My hometown, Calgary, "Cowtown" hosts a rodeo every July.  The Calgary Stampede is often called the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.  Going back about 100 years, Calgary is known for Western events, and there are still many working ranches, and genuine cowboys and cowgirls close to city limits.  With a population of over a million, there are also lots of urban dwellers who have never seen a horse, but embrace our Western Heritage enthusiastically every July. Tourists and locals come out in droves to see the Stampede, eat something weird (like cricket pizza) and see world class entertainment.  I'm really sure that there are lots of other cities across the world that see this same phenomenon - Western themed events which...

This is it, the real story

Since I have launched Yoshi-Bella I have wanted to stay true to myself and build an authentic business.  I have realized over the past few weeks that I haven't been so good at it.  See, I'm a solopreneur - a mom wanting to stay home so my kids can come home from school.  I have been so wrapped up in wanting to make sure that you saw Yoshi-Bella as a professional corporation, that I have been trying to make it seem like something it's not. I had hoped you would see Yoshi-Bella as a huge company with HR and supply chain, with a serious board of directors and MBAs and financial whiz kids who know how to scale a company...

Retail Spotlight: Debbie at Different Strokes Gallery in Olds Alberta

Today I met a great friend, Debbie Ohlhausen, proprietor of Different Strokes Gallery in Olds, Alberta. This lovely town is on the Cowboy Trail and makes a great road-trip stop. As I pulled up to the Different Strokes Gallery, I smiled. The lovely purple motif and beautiful sign reminded me of the friendly and effervescent Debbie herself. The gallery and Debbie are is so welcoming. Beautiful art decorates the walls, and the store is full of unique gifts and local handmade goods. I was eyeing up some amazing repurposed leather cuffs from a local artist (next birthday present!), as well as some oil canvases.  What I loved about Debbie's Gallery is the diversity and variety of the goods she carries....

Friends for the holidays!

We all have a BFF.  Someone that just gets us, who has seen us at our worst and at our best. Yoshi-Bella has a BFF, and great news!  Sleepovers every day for the next 10 days!! Yoshi-Bella (my dog) and her BFF Harlee (a Basset Hound) hang out with each other when the rest of the family goes on vacation. In this case Harlee's family is going to Mexico, sadly she is not allowed to come.  Great news for Yoshi!  When Harlee walks near our house, she pulls and whines to come and visit Yoshi. When I walk near Harlee's house, even if we aren't going there, Yoshi tries to take a dash across the road to get to Harlee's house. I...
